The story of Vallabh Vidyanagar, The township that grew in wilderness, is stranger than fiction. No one, who goes round the campus scanning its beautiful landscapes today, will be ready to believe that only around five decades ago it was a wasteland lost in crime, squalor and darkness. But a near miracle happened when the late Shri Bhaikaka with a band of devoted, fellow-workers including the late Shri Bhikhabhai Patel set out to turn their dreams of rural regeneration into reality. Thanks to the inspiration of the late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to whose memory this seat of learning stands as a magnificent monument, within an incredibly short time of only seven years the nucleus of education here flowered in a university. |

Vallabh Vidyanagar :-
Planning in Vallabh Vidyanagar is not restricted to its physical aspects. Planning of academic institutions has been comprehensive and far-sighted. The concentration of a large number of educational institutions in a small area imparts it a certain cohesiveness. Close contact as between teachers of different faculties on the one hand, and as between teachers and students help greatly in creating a healthy atmosphere, which comes close to the academic atmosphere of a residential University. Vallabh Vidyanagar today (with a population of around 50,000) is a unique educational township, built and developed as a Centre for Higher Education in rural surroundings. It is about 2 Kms. from Karamsad, the home town of Late Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and 5 Kms. from Anand, the Milk City of India, which is on Baroda-Ahmedabad Railway line in the heart of Anand district of Gujarat. The township became functional in June 1947 and the Charutar Vidya Mandal was established in the year 1945
